Penrith Saturday Market is the largest and most popular market and car boot in Cumbria. The market takes place every Saturday from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm. The market runs every Saturday with the exception of one weekend in the year when Lowther Horse Driving Trials are held, normally the first weekend in August.
The site is all hard standing, with “outside” and “inside trading” for the “Softies”. It has a good one way traffic system and is complimented by its 4 large car parks. There are no charges levied for parking or admission.
There are good toilet facilities and traders water available. Electricity is available for a small charge but may be limited for usage.
The car boot is mainly held undercover within the pennage area of the cattle market. However you can, if desired, go outside to trade where some stalls with a working surface are available. Trollies for the car booters are also available.
To obtain a trading position simply turn up on site, as early as possible, and join our casual queue, situated on the car park at the entrance to the market, there you will be allocated a position (vans on) by the Market Superintendent on a first come first served basis. Traders may come the day before and stay overnight on site if necessary. Our staff will be on site 3 hours prior to the advertised opening hours. The cost of pitches / stalls / pens will vary depending upon frontage occupied so it is advisable that you contact us for updated information.
Penrith is a historic market town in the country of Cumbria, formally Cumberland, England. It has a population of over 48,000 and is sited in the beautiful Eden Valley to the North of the river Eamont and lies less than three miles outside the boundaries of the Lake District National Park. Other local rivers bounding the town are the Lowther and Petteril which in turn are linked by a partially man-made watercourse flowing through the centre of the town known as Thacka Beck which, for many centuries, provided the town with its main water supply. With its beautiful and idyllic scenery of hills and lakes it is very popular with tourism and attracts many to the market with the site situated on the main route to the hills.
Spook Erection advertise 52 weeks a year and also provide free buses which run throughout the day ferrying passengers from the town to the market. The market and Car Boot has also been filmed and shown on TV a few times namely the famous “Car Bootie"
